Specimen Type: Serum: SST gel-barrier tube or Red-top tube; BAL: sterile screw-cap, leak proof container *CAUTION against submitting pour off specimens or specimens* sent in non-sterile containers as this can lead to false positive results.
Specimen Storage: Storage: Serum - Refrigerate unopened for up to five days. Separated serum may be frozen at -70C. BAL - Refrigerate up to 24 hours. Frozen (-20C or colder) for up to 5 months. Refrigerated: Opened for 48 hours Frozen: 14 days
Specimen Collection: Collect specimen using aseptic technique. AVOID opening the specimen after collection to prevent contamination with fungal spores and/or bacteria present in the environment.
Special Instructions: AVOID opening the specimen after collection. Do NOT aliquot (Package insert (PI) specifies transport in sealed tubes). The client must submit the patient's Social Security number for serial monitoring.
